Telstra have ongoing requirements to upgrade and install new systems to maintain and expand their services. These systems include the following:

  • DC Telecommunications power systems (Rectifiers)
  • Chillers and Mechanical equipment.
  • UPS systems
  • Emergency Electrical Generators
  • Technical Earthing systems

We have been involved in the design of these systems in multiple major and minor projects across NSW and ACT.

Our role is to provide complete design of the low voltage systems, and plan the cutover strategy to eliminate outages and risk.

Our process starts with understanding and discussing the requirements of the client, taking the brief, working out what they need, as well as discussing the budget and timeframe.

Trying to obtain the most current engineering drawings and single line diagrams.

We arrange multiple site visits to survey, study and document the current electrical system and determine the site’s capacity to ensure we provide the best solution.

With our design we prioritise redundancy and maintainability of the electrical system.

We base our design of the electrical switchboards on templates that we have developed and updated over the years, and we keep updating them based on new technologies, feedback from manufacturers and previous installations, or new requirements.

We provide and perform the following:

  • CAD drawings of the complete electrical design including floor plans and single line diagrams.
  • As-Built drawings.
  • Electrical specifications.
  • Site inspections and witness tests for switchboards and ATS’s.
  • Inspection reports during and after the completion of works.
  • Review and approve Workshop Drawings.
  • Review and approve Operation & Maintenance manuals.
  • Site surveys and investigations.
  • Electrical power survey including power measurements when possible.
  • BES reports.

Some of the challenges we face:

  • Working in a live environment and making cutovers safely without interruption to service
  • Investigating and integrating into the existing complex power systems.
